    The main functions of the virology division:

    1. Research on animal viruses to develop vaccines and establish diagnostic methods
    2. Surveillance of emerging viral diseases which have zoonotic potential- Nipah virus and West Nile fever virus
    3. FMD vaccine production and quality control
    4. Newcastle disease virus seed preparation and quality control (primary and secondary vaccine)
    5. Preparation of autovaccines for bovine papillomatosis (wart) and contagious pustular dermatitis (CPD)
    6. Island wide surveillance of Avian influenza
    7. Import facilitation by testing samples provided by AQS for important viral diseases such as AI, ND, BVD and ASF
    8. Export facilitation by testing and providing report especially for AI and Newcastle disease
    9. Maintenance of clean poultry flocks to obtain quality eggs for vaccine production, research and diagnosis
    10. Diagnosis of important poultry viral diseases (AI, ND, IB and IBH)
    11. Diagnosis of important viral diseases of ruminants (BVD, IBR, BT, PPR and CAEV)
    12. Diagnosis of important swine viral diseases (Swine influenza and African swine fevernd African swine fever)
    13. Provide reagents to regional VICs on request
    14. Provide technical expertise within DAPH and outside of DAPH
    15. Provide laboratory training and internships
